Two prominent Polish converts to Islam stand out:
1. Muhammad Asad (Leopold Weiss):
Born Jewish in 1900, he became a renowned journalist and traveler.
He converted to Islam in 1926, writing the acclaimed autobiography “The Road to Mecca”.
Asad served as a diplomat and authored books on Islam and the Middle East.
2. Wojciech Bobowski:
Born in 1930, he became a musician and scholar, embracing Islam in 1964 (Abdul Karim).
Bobowski dedicated his life to studying and performing Islamic music, founding the Maqam Ensemble.
He also translated the Quran into Polish, a significant contribution to the Polish Muslim community.
Poland has a long history of interaction with Islam, including the presence of Tatar communities since the 14th century. In recent years, the Polish Muslim population has grown due to immigration and conversions.
